WHAT WE DO

Carla B Paul

Ms. Paul was called to the Manitoba bar in 1983. She practiced in the area of family and civil law for many years, and appeared regularly in the Queen’s Bench and Court of Appeals for Manitoba. Several of the cases she was involved in continue to be relied upon as leading precedent. In particular, in 1999 Carla took an important case before the Supreme Court of Canada where she successfully established the law imposing step parent responsibilities for children who had become reliant on them.

Domestic conflict is a difficult and stressful period in anyone’s life. Carla tries to add common sense and experience to help people deal with the strain. In her perspective, if you need to use the Family Courts, Manitoba is one of the best places to be. We have evolved a conciliatory, responsive, and cost-effective system that helps resolve much of the conflict. There are very few cases that require a costly and combative trial process. It is always Carla’s approach to encourage her client’s to take advantage of those services and help them reach a consensus rather than have one imposed.

Carla has also been called to the Bar in Minnesota where practiced civil litigation for seven years and was trained to preside over alternate dispute resolution. She has returned to Manitoba to practice primarily in the area of family law.
